Mediated spaces, anyone?

At the Tropicana Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, between a pair of too-pricey-for-my-wallet restaurants called Red Square and Cuba Libre, there is .........

a statue of Lenin. A very large statue of Lenin.

Just ten feet away was the casino's Halloween "psychic," offering $20 readings at a table set up in front of the spa, across from a store that sold spy accoutrements and fake body armor.

In ancient days, conquering nations would loot the relics, shields, and monument of the defeated, parading them in the homeland's great cities for public spectacle.

Of course, human nature changes... We don't do things like that anymore.

I think there's a novel in there somewhere

Dan,
I read somewhere that this is one of few large Lenin statues in the US that is not headless.
I'm sure the $250 plates of caviar offered inside the restaurant help keep Lenin nice and shiny. ;)

squib,
I envision something more along the lines of that Russian story about the man who's so grief-stricken over his girlfriend's wartime death that he hallucinates that the statue in the town square is chasing him ....
